Chicago Mayor Rahm Emannuel

"As Mayor and on behalf of the City of Chicago, it is my pleasure to welcome everyone gathered for the 2013 BUILDINGChicago and Greening the Heartland Conference.

Celebrating the 10th Anniversary, Greening the Heartland (GTH) is one of the U.S. Green Building Council's Midwest regional conferences.  this year GTH will be extended to run through the BUILDINGChicago conference adding opportunities for sharing best practices in green building and continuing education for LEED accredited professionals.  Both event run parallel with the mission we have for our city.  Read More ...

Sam Pobst"Why should you attend Greening the Heartland?

Whether you are just getting started in green building, or have years of experience, there will be something at Greening the Heartland to ignite your passion.

As we move to adopt the long overdue LEED v4, it will be more important than ever to utilize the tools that LEED has helped transform.  A change in the energy use requirements will make energy modeling a far more important tool in the preliminary design process than it has been historically.  Passive House design provides significant insight into design for net-zero buildings, which should inspire greater energy awareness in all of us.  Water use efficiencies have been easy to achieve with off the shelf technologies, but the new standards will challenge us to dig deeper into water harvesting as a means to attain parity with earlier models.  Food production and urban agriculture integrate into our consciousness.  Information on all of this and more will be provided in great depth by experts familiar with the geographic, environmental, and social conditions unique to our region.

See you in the Heartland.  Where grace meets strength."

Rob Cassidy"Each event will retain its identity and schedule, but our goal is to focus a spotlight on the commercial building and construction industry in Chicago and the Midwest.  This will be a great opportunity for top managers across all phases of the industry to come together to learn, network and enjoy the city."
